  • Sorchy E-mail NOT true

    Comrades,

If you received an e-mail from Terry Sorchy about needing money it is NOT true.

Do Not reply to it as it is some type of scam or virus that is unfortunately using his e-mail!

I confirmed with Terry and Terry's wife is working to correct the issue.

Terry is on his way to LA to command IPW like planned.

I thought I would help get the word out since I am stuck at home :cry_smile. The "To" field was hidden so I do not know who got it and who did not. So, this seemed like most efficient way.

    Thank you,
    Respectfully,

I got the same e-mail from Terry and have confirmed it's not true.

    Hello
How are you doing today? Fine I presume. My reason for writing you a emergency letter is that I am currently traveling to United Kingdom, to visit my ill Aunty, am sorry for not informing you before embarking on my journey to United Kingdom, because the news of her illness arrived to me as "EMERGENCY" she is suffering from a critical uterine Fibroid and needs family support to keep her going, her condition is deteriorating and the doctor told me that she will under-go a surgery to keep her alive because her fibroid has gotten worse(70pounds Large) and has done a lot of damages to her abdominal area. They will require a deposit of $1,350(Dollars) because they are inviting professional surgeons from Israel to perform the(hysterectomy) operation because it had gotten way-out of hand for them to handle. That brings me more to why I have written you, I need a financial help of $1,350(Dollars) from you to deposit for her surgery, and I am traveling with little cash because I didn't expect things to be the way it is right now. I really need this money from you soon because I am in a terrible and tight situation here, I have 48hrs to get the money before the surgeons arrive. Even if you can't afford the whole sum, I will appreciate whatever you are able to come up with, because I don't even know your financial status before asking you for money. I promise to pay you back when I return.I am desperately waiting to read from you soon so that I will know my faith and the next step to take.

    Sincerely
    Terry Sorchy

Ditto. I called Terry, who is currently driving Into the Piney Woods. Wish I was there, too! Seems his hotmail account got hacked.

Thanks for posting on this. My first clue it wasn't real was that it was sent this morning after he was already on the road.

I got it as well, and based on who else has posted to this thread, I'd say there is a good chance his whole address book got it.

If someone has Terry's number, please call him and tell him to find internet access someplace to change his password as someone has certainly hacked into this account.

                Re: Sorchy E-mail NOT true

This looks very similar to the "Grandmother" scam that we were warned about at work.

People call or email grandparents posing as a grandchild in trouble on vaction, who is embarrassed, but is suddenly stapped for cash in a foreign country to get home/get out of jail/get emergency medical care.

Grandparents then are asked to give credit card information over the phone.

We were told to warn our parents and grandparents to ask the caller/emailer a question that only a family member would know. Like "I'll send you what I have, but did you also call Uncle James to ask for help? Would you like his home number?" When everyone in the family knows that Uncle James died in 1965.

Glad people called and checked it out by cell phone.

                These people are shameless,

Typical "phishing" or "Nigeria Scam" e-mail, but this is more serious as it high jacked an entire address book of someone else's e-mail.

                    Re: Sorchy E-mail NOT true

I know that Hotmail and Gmail accounts are convenient, but I would never rely upon one as my primary email address for this very reason. I'm hoping that Microsoft can get control of this situation for Terry's sake. I wonder how many other Hotmail accounts were hacked into?
                    With kind regards,

Am I the only one that sent the $1,350 ?! Boy do I feel foolish. :confused_I mean, professional surgeons from Israel don't work cheap. Oh well, that's a drop in the bucket since I'm getting 65 million from a murdered chief's daughter on the Ivory Coast. It's in a Belgium bank but it's in American dollars so only an American can collect it.

Mr. Duffer, has your tongue bored a hole all the way through your cheek yet?:p

Seriously folks--this will take a while to get fixed on Terry's account. The delightful and talented Mrs. S is about as e-competent as I am, so nothing much will happen until Terry get Out of the Piney Woods

Mr. Duffer, there is a bridge out east that might just be for sale . . .!

I knew this was not from Terry, there were adjectives missing and other
mangled verbiage. Terry only gets that way when he is in his cups, and
then we are also addled by the drink, and can clearly understand him!

                            (Just kidding! But seriously . . .)

Hopefully, there was nobody out there that took this ruse as being from
an honorable man such as my friend. And we can hope this does not
                            happen to any of us.

If we are ever cheated, let it be at cards, or the sutlers, as it should be!
