Re: Wanna buy a Union fort?
I like this at the bottom of the auction:
The sale will be only to responsible parties that will maintain the historical integrity of the property. Not to be sold to developers or anyone that will tarnish the fort or any of its surroundings. Seller also reserves the right for sale to be used for tax free exchange.

When I first heard of this, I thought that it was a joke, the park where I work at manages the other portion, as well as the rest of the battlefield. I've sent an email to our region supervisor informing him of this section of the fort that is for sale. I would love to see this addition to the star fort being added to the site.

And they ain't going to get it. Not unless Ken Burns or Ted Turner wants it.
If they were really serious about it being preserved they'd either have a reasonable starting price or would actually donate the land to a reputable organization (or the government) and take it as a tax write off.
By the way Fort Montgomery on Lake Champlain is for sale.
And it was also manned during the Civil War incase things got hot and heavy between the US and the UK.
And it has been for sale for a while due to it's extremely unreasonable price (it ain't even worth what they are asking as developable land).Bob Sandusky

Re: Wanna buy a Union fort?
I goofed in my earlier post, I was thinking star fort since half of it is privately owned on the Allatoona Battlefield site. The complete portion of the Eastern Redoubt is under GA DNR/ US Army Corps of Engineer management.
The site that is listed for sale is according to an official from the Georgia Battlefields Commission is actually located a few miles west of the October 1864 battlefield.

Re: Wanna buy a Union fort?
Fellows,
I think that about 1000 of us on the forum should throw in $85.00 and buy the place. What do you think?

Re: Wanna buy a Union fort?
Certainly. If we can get 1,000 people to pony up $85 each, I'd say we go for it. Title should be given to the CWPT or to the state park system with stipulations that it must be preserved and interpreted as a Civil War fort.GaryYee o' the Land o' Rice a Roni & Cable Cars
