  • CS Wood drum canteens

Would a CS Officer have used a Wood drum canteen throughout the war or just mostly in the early period. I thought they would prefer Tin canteens. I thought i would like to have one but wanted to be sure before making a purchase. Thank you. Regards, Clifford Earl Hyde

    Re: CS Wood drum canteens

There are a lot of variables in there... jr officer vs a general, theater, unit, time period... my advice would be to hown in your impression a little more. I have seen both wooden and tin examples attributed to officers. As I recall there a few in the Gettysburg collection attributed to officers. But more tin (but tin tends to weather the years better too, so one would expect that). There are many reports of confederate foot officers being "barley discernable from the privates"... again, a lot of varibles there.
