  • S&W revolvers

Just out of curiosity, anybody carry an original S&W revolver (Model 1 or Model 2)? For the model 1's, I know .22 blanks are available, but if anyone carries a Model 2, what (if anything) do you use for blanks? Do you use the reloadable rimfire shells from Dixie or H&C, and just how would you load a decent blank? And just how well would a Model 2 fit in the inside pocket of a fatigue blouse?

    Re: S&W revolvers

    Hallo!

    Sorry no.

    Once Upon a Time...

I was going to buy one to use for an officer's impression just be a little different than say a "London Colt."
But experiences with reloading (live) black powder cartridges for Richards and Richards & Mason conversions, as well the M1871/72 Colt (plus M1866/M1873) Winchesters wore me down.

      Re: S&W revolvers

I found a rather nice Model 2 .32 rimfire that had been refinished at some point in its past, at http://www.campsiteartifacts.com. The assembly number on the cylinder doesn't match the rest of the gun, and the split spring that is part of the cylinder locking bolt assembly needs replacing (I can make a new one), but otherwise the gun is in great shape, even the bore! By the serial number, the gun was made in late 1864. I hand-load anyway, so loading blanks doesn't faze me any. I was just wondering how a proper blank should be assembled (using a re-loadable rimfire case). I know that these guns were popular with officers and enlisted both; I'm just wondering if the enlisted would have tried to carry the guns in the pockets of their fatigue blouses, or if they contrived to have some kind of holster. The gun is VERY light, despite its 6-inch barrel length, so I wouldn't think it would be much of a burden even on a march.
