Well, being that I work with the Federal government on a daily basis, this remark would most certainly depend upon the agency in question.

Also, I can tell you from personal involvement that the NPS Internet servers have been having trouble for the past couple days processing e-mails from outside. Your messages may not have gotten through.
This I was told yesterday while on the phone with the NPS and I assumed it to be true.

I was able to reach a friend that works in NPS museum services. This claim is news to them. He informed me that there is no threat to the Armory or any plans to close down the facility and shove the collection into storage. It sounds like a simple case of paranoia and misinformation.
Between both your lead and Curt's new information, hopefully the matter will be put to rest for the exaggeration that it obviously was.

      Curt:

I think this is some sort of rumor started by a malcontent. The Armory actually contacted some reenacting units in the area about doing a living history on armory property this year.

Nobody has much enthusiasm for it as apparently the NPS administration has decided to enforce a 'no guns' rule on the property.

Maybe people are confusing a 'no guns' Living History for 'they are tearing the whole thing down'.

I know here the Watervliet Arsenal is actually trying to arrange the transfer of some of the property to a local historical group so that LH events can be held on historic arsenal grounds without running a foul of government regs (being it still is an active arsenal).
