  • Genealogy and Military records

Working through my genealogy has proven to be quite a task. I have recently located 3 confederate and 1 union ancestors. It appears that 2 of my rebs died on the battle field. I do have units for both sides and have found the names on rosters. Can anyone give advice on how to find records that my reflect this? Just a point in the right direction is all that's needed.
    Thank you sir

    Re: Genealogy and Military records

Micky, check with the local library in the county that your ancestors lived/enlisted. By doing this I've found pension records (with vast amounts of detailed information) as well as enlistment cards, with enlistment dates, the amount the CSA credited them for their horses, etc. Most of it is availabale on microfilm.
    Anyway it's a start !

      Mickey,

Try www.footnote.com, they have most of the Confederate service records available online and are working on the Federal ones at the moment.
