Dear Members,
As many (if not all) of you know, Glenn Jones, who provided the space for the Authentic Campaigner website and perhaps half a dozen other vendor and unit websites has disappeared from the face of the earth.
At first I was more than willing to give Glenn the benefit of the doubt. In August, the first time these sites crashed he was able to repair them within a week, but no explanation for their crash was ever given. Then, as fall dragged on the crashes grew exponentially until in December everything went dark. Once again Glenn put the sites back up in early January but this lasted a scant 12 hours, and he has not been heard of since. Again, no explanation has ever been given.
To those of us who rely on the Authentic Campaigner as a means of education and entertainment, this was a severe blow to our ability to learn about this period of history and about our hobby, but to those of us who depended on Glenn to keep our business sites running, this has been a tragedy. Personally, during the month of January in which my site was up for a total of 3 1/2 days I received 2 orders...2 orders during the entire month. In the past week since I placed a temporary site on the free spaces provided by Tripod I have received 10 orders....just in one week. I know that several vendors depend on their businesses to support themselves, and even then have to live rather spartan lifestyles. I personally use my business to pay for college, and as a result of the loss of my site had to take out loans for several thousand dollars to be able to graduate in May.
The cost of what Glenn has taken from us is hard to measure in money. I like, many others paid him in trade. I cannot help but feel now when I have not heard anything from him in over a month, than the several months on which I spent making the item I traded him were wasted, and in effect he has taken that time from me. Furthermore, no one will ever know how many lost sales I had in the times in which my site was down, but if the months previous to that are any indication of what sales levels could have been it was surely over a thousand dollar's worth.
I contacted Glenn approximately a week and a half ago asking that he either send the item I made for him back, or money to cover the fair market value of it. I gave Glenn a February 28th deadline to respond and repay me what is owed. I warned him that if he did not respond by that time I would pursue legal action to get what is owed me.
On the urgings of Paul Calloway and others I am presenting this case to the general A-C public. Any other vendors or representatives of unit websites that have had your money stolen by Glenn, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss the details. Personally, I feel silly pursuing him alone for the relatively small amount of money he owes me, but when all of the thefts are added up it amounts to thousands of dollars and makes much more sense. At any rate, feel free to contact me either or this forum or at colstoughton@hotmail.com and we can discuss our options.
Lastly, I would like to say that I have very much appreciated all of the support shown for Paul, myself, and all of the rest who have been cheated during the past month while we tried to get things running again. This outpouring of sentiment has clearly shown that regardless of what one bad egg does, our community as a whole is strong, compassionate, and one in which I consider it to be a true honor to be a part.
Thank You,
