  • Stones River Damage

    Folks,
Just found out the Stones River Battlefield got hit hard by the Tornado yesterday, they have over 2,000 trees down. The Tornado cut right through the core of the battlefield, from Tour Stop 3 over to one, and then over to 5. The Battlefield is going to be closed for several days because of this. However, no cannon were damaged, nor was the Hazen Monument or the cemetary. So, for those in the area, there is going to be a call for volunteers in the near future to help with cleanup, so if anyone can, please lend them a hand.

Even when they are hit hard, there is good news for the irreplaceable cultural elements of the park. Thanks for the update, White.

Larry Hicklen has posted pictures on his website, Middle Tennessee CW Relics, of some of the damage to the Park. Trees in the main, but also he gained a new mattress the storm blew in.

Heard from Jim Lewis that the Volunteers program next weekend was being postponed, and all the trails are blocked with debris. There will be plenty of opportunity to get some 'volunteer hours' in, if you have the time.

Well folks, look at it like this.It was a way to get PLENTY of firewood for any living history coming up at the park in the next, say 15 years.Glad there wasn't too much damage at the park.

First I would like to make clear that thank God no one in the park was hurt or killed. But the tornado did much less damage to the battelfield than Tommy Bragg, Bart Gordon and the City of Murfreesboro did!

                    Re: Stones River Damage

Its been a number of years since I visited that beautiful park. I'm glad that God spared the monuments and cannon and other structures. Tornadoes are proof that mother nature is pissed off at us LOL

I need to get back there, maybe this summer, to visit, and to shake paws with my old friend Larry Hicklen and his lovely bride Deb.

Any living histories planned there in the next six months?
