  • Vendors in Gettysburg-area?

I'm planning a trip to Gettysburg.

Does anyone have a current list of AC-approved/other quality vendors maintaining retail shops or supplying retailers there?

I found an old thread on the subject, but there's been some flux with regard to vendors since it was posted.

I'd hate to visit all the great sites in the area only to find that I missed someone's shop.

    Thanks!

    Jim,

You'll want to try S&S Sutler on the Chambersburg Pike (within spitting distance of the Lutheran Seminary.) Then you'll want to head to "The Depot", a new top quality vendor shop in the red barn across from The Horse Soldier in Old Gettysburg Village. Finally, try and make it to Spiros Marinos shop which is in the old house right across from the cemetery, (though it can be tricky to find it open, I've tried ten times to get there and it has always been closed.) And if you're looking for some seriously cool civilian clothing, shoot down 116 toward Fairfield and stop by Needle and Thread, around the left side of the building Corner Clothiers has their shop. Try these places on the weekend, preferably Saturday, and you should have some luck.

    Have a great time!

      Good day,

In case you want or need to know, Needle and Thread is closed on Sundays and Tuesdays. S&S, the Depot, Spiros, and Corner Clothiers are all great shops and well worth the trip. I know S&S is doing some odd ball jackets such as the Gilmore. Other than that, not much else in Gettysburg except for the battlefield.

All of the above mentioned vendors/shops are open on Saturdays. Sometimes Spiros is open even though the door may be locked. He's usually down in the Military museum. At least that's what he told me. If you plan for a Saturday you can't go wrong.

I know it's not a vendor of repro stuff, all the good ones have been mentioned, but definitely go into the afore-mentioned "The Horse Soldier" that's across from the afore-mentioned "The Depot" (haven't visited the shop yet, but plan on it!). Full of original items. It's like a museum you can buy from :) Spiro's is tricky, it'll be on your left going out of town. Could walk it if you're so inclined and the weather's agreeable.

There is a phone number posted on the door of SG Merinos, I can't remember if it is the front, back or side, but call it to gain access if not open. :)I saved it on my cell phone. You can also call and make an appointment the number is: 1 (717) 752-0293.

            Same with S&S there number is: 1 (717) 338-1990.

Daley's stuff should be next Needle and Thread. along with Corner Clothiers

Dirty Billy Hat is up there in G-burg too.

The Depot is new and a comglomoration of Ben Tart, EJ Thomas, Dick Walters or Watters, Morris & Co., and the Dirty Back Boys. Should be an excelent place!

The Regimental Quartermaster has a shop there.

There are several places up there to buy period wool for knitting purposes too.

Visiting The Horse Soldier is definitely a great suggestion. Usually if you ask politely they will allow viewing of some of the uniforms they have for sale. Also stop into the Union Drummer Boy, the CW militaria shop downtown near the circle across the street from Dirty Billy's. Regimental Quartermaster, in itself a mainstream vendor, has some very nice stuff in their shop if you stop to look around; usually new or used items made by many current talents and vendors of this side of the hobby.

                Have fun!
