Re: Interesting Civil War discussion question

I have had a life long interest in the Civil War and I remember staying up really late or getting up really early on Saturday to watch Civil War Journal on the history channel. Seeing those reenactors on that show made me want to reenact more and more.
    Kindest regards,

Re: Interesting Civil War discussion question

I have read this same discussion in other fora that I visit for business reasons and that have nothing to do with history, much less reenacting. In another corner of my life, I manage the import and craft beer section at a large beverage store. When visiting the "beer-geek" websites to see what's coming down the road or to help decide which brands to put on my shelves I come across discussions as to whether attempts at craft brewing by the big breweries (referred to as B-M-C) is a good thing or a sacrilege. The parallels with this thread are striking. One side says that what the big boys brew will at least introduce people to better beers and encourage them to experiment with higher quality offerings. Another side says that it distracts people, squanders valuable shelf space and hurts the smaller breweries that place a premium on quality.

Whether its ACW fiction & movies or mega breweries, I see more good than harm. Each has elements that make me cringe, but they also pique the interest in what better offerings may be available. Sticking with Civil War movies, at reenactments and in the classroom, they give me a great opening to tell the more accurate (and frequently much more interesting) story.
