  • I think the forest is moving ...

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or are those Johnnies dressed up like bushes sneaking up on the Federal videttes?

    Joe,

With Berdan's Sharpshooters, anything is possible.

But, Berdan's would have been playing for the same team as the videttes!

It reminds me of a scene from a Shakespeare play (maybe "King Lear"?), where he notices the forest is moving and it is the enemy advancing behind shrubs they are holding in front of them.

Intersesting drawing, it reminded me of 1941 when the Japanese Invading party kidnapped Slim Pickens from the Christmas Tree Farm. Unlike Mr. Hollis P. Wood the federal videttes don't seem to be fooled.

            This is Virginia's spouse posting.

"'Til Bernam Wood do come to Dunsinane" is from Macbeth.

Maybe these soldiers were just engaged in a bit of a theatrical presentation. And those miscreants from the union army spoiled the show by shooting at them!

Actually I think Jake is onto something. It's Christmas-time, and those nice Rebs are just bearing trees as "gifts" to the heathen Federals.....

Thanks for the Billy Shakes reference. I knew I had heard the lines, but it has been many years since I just sat and read Billy Boy.

God, wait til the farbs get a hold of this.
