Someone told me it is pronounced as "mean-nay" and someone else said, "mean-yay." Which is it? Thanks!

Re: How is minie pronounced?
Hallo!
Claude-Etienne Minié...
In English, more like "min-ee."
In French, (hard to do accent, infliction, and nasal tone here) more like "me-neeyay."
Others mileage will vary... c'est vrai.

Re: How is minie pronounced?
Hallo!
Merci, mon ami...
I see a typo joke at my own expense... Some would say when it comes to French it is more of an "infliction" than "inflection."
:)

Q: Do you know any other French?
A: Yes. French fries, French toast, French leave, and French kissing.Curt Schmidt

Re: How is minie pronounced?
Hallo!
Ne rien...
(One cheval de frise, two or more cheveaux de frise.)
I do not know who thinks up the names for these things.
A Frisian or Friesland horse:
Makes one scratch their head about hors de combat. ;) :)
With the advent of barbed wire, the cheval de frise was replaced with the
"Spanish Rider" (aka Knife Rest) where the two '"X" shaped ends were retained but instead of spikes lines of barbed wire were used.
We still use them, from time to time, as they can make an effective "drop in" barrier to be used to quickly block off a trench.
