  • History teacher dumb dumb...

I found this video this morning and rather speachless. I will just say, if you are into Civil War weaponry, you may want to sit down when you watch this.

The American Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865, forced military leaders to rethink standard tactics. Grooved barrel weapons, minie balls and other new armaments produced such an alarming casualty rate that fortifications and trenches surpassed cavalry charges and hand-to-hand combat as effective strategies of ...

Interesting. Someone obviously put some time into putting this together but the information is indeed terribly mixed up and erroneous.

The sad thing, in listening to her explanation, is that it sounds like she picked up bits and pieces of here misunderstanding from some of the many, many incompetent reenactors out there educating the publik.

I hate to say it, cause I'm sure she's a nice lady. But it sounds like somebody gave her some kind of long script to memorize, then got her intoxicated and asked her to repeat it.... And that's all she could remember. Like Troy said, there are actually "reenactors" out there telling the same sort of BS to school kids. I know of one fella who makes this lady sound like Shelby Foote !!

I want my 1:20 back. I learned nothing of value from that video. ;)

I like how the video has a five star rating, meaning people actually think what she said was correct.

As a History teacher at the college level, I never could understand why the kids didn't know anything about American History after graduating from High School with mandatory American History requirements, and this is why. This is typical of history teachers that don't do their own research, but spout what they hear somewhere else or fake it when they don't know the materiel. And so the students walk away thinking that is it, and by the way most hate history because of teachers who don't have the passion to know the materiel.

Obviously a plain muzzle would have worked best in her case.

My daughter was studying the Civil War in her history class (think it was 6th grade) and the teacher had the kids watch the video of the movie Gettysburg. OK, not a bad move, you can learn some good things from the movie. She then had a quizz for the kids to tell a little bio on the Civil War personalities presented in the movie. So here was the list she generated. Longstreet, Lee, Chamberlain, Hancock, C. Thomas Howell, opps wait a minute. I ask my daughter why a movie actor was mixed in with these famous military men. She told me the teacher thougt that this was a historical figure. I almost had a fit. You gotta be kidding. This person doesn't teach anymore.

Such is the public school system today.
Now, I dont know where many of you stand in the terms of the causes behind the war, slavery etc, but im sure you'll all love this.
I had to sit in a history class listening to a teacher proceed to tell us that Lincoln told the south that they had "to give up their negros and start paying men to do the farming" and that "those people in the south, they were racist, and still are very much so today. So them southerners didnt like that" And thats why the left the union, which according to him was illegal and there was a law against it...You can see where im going with this.
About the time he started on the "Racist South" card I excused myself from class.
In the whole year of American History, we spent a week on the war? We spent more time covering civil rights and the great depression etc...Weeks on both subjects.
Dont ya love government education at its best!!!
