It's sad to see you checking out and selling off your gear, old friend. I won't soon forget waking your ass up at Bentonville 2000 to shake hands - that was our introduction.

Funny how having families and real job responsibilies has changed us. Well, I still got some gear laying around here so if you want to come back out and play sometime, just call/email/pm. What's mine is yours.

Take care of Erin and don't forget to check your six.

Mr. Caldwell still has a scar on his leg from playing with us at Caesar's Creek some years back. Fire is hot, Matt.

It won't be the same without you, sir. Take care of you and yours and call on us any time.

          Hey Matt,

Just met you once about 5-6 years ago, and briefly, at Remembrance Day. Glad to have met you and wishing you all the best in your future.

          I don't think I'm far behind you.

            Re: Matt Caldwell

I met Matt for the first time at Perryville years and years ago. It was actually my first event with the GHTI...I remember Matt's way of speaking and his body language cracked me up. I think the next event we were at in Richmond, Kentucky, we were both drunk enough that he threw me as far as he could when I asked him to!

Some time later I went to his house in Dayton, not far from mine, and we got to talking about uniforms and clothing. His knowledge and interest got me hooked and I was soon spending weekends hanging out. He basically taught me how to sew; I learned almost everything I know now from him.

I'm sad to see you leaving the hobby man, and I regret not finding the time to come down for visits since I moved away. You have to shoot me your number so I can give you a call next time I'm in Cincinnati.

Give my best to Erin and Jonah!!!!

            Cheers,

Like Bryant, I met Matt at the Antietam filming in 99. He and I raced across Burnsides Bridge, each carrying colors. Good times, great guy.

Oh yeah! Well, I think Matt Caldwell is nothing but a great big ole red headed, mutton chops wearin', cornbread eatin', grungy uniform wearin', farina cookin', trouble makin'......friend. I will miss seeing you at events.

Stay in touch and let us know how everything is with the Caldwell family.

I'm sorry to hear of Matt's decision too. He left an impression- no pun intended- on the hobby and the hobby is much better for it. (Matt, it was nice to meet you, finally, after the Payne's Farm event in '05).

And to my pard Madden.... Joe, you ain't going nowhere so don't even think about it!

                        Re: Matt Caldwell

Oh, I'll never forget Matt going to the 1st Sgt's call at Rich Mountain and then not telling the company we were dropping packs... It was funny seeing the other companys toting their ground clothes up the mountain. Well, it made me a better re-enactor anyway! A sack coat makes a fine groundcloth.

Caldwell at Perryville in 2002, while Dom was drilling the two battalions pretty hard Saturday morning. Someone in the ranks mentioned the Colonel was throwing the book at us pretty good. Matt grins and says:

                        "I wrote that book..."

What a dude. Anyhow, with real life concerns staring all of us in the face, plus a flat lined economy, it's a wonder any of us can still find the resources to do this. I myself just found out it's back to Afghanistan in October, which will cause me to delay my comeback and miss Bummers.

My hat's off to y'all who still find the courage and fortitude to campaign. Good luck Matt.
