Re: C.S. Use of Dog Tents
Gentlemen,
I have been going through alot of C.S. CSR's recently and I have noticed a few things in late war QM records that might be of interest. Usually when in comes to C.S. Tents the "Form 40" calsl them "Tent Flies" "Army Tents" or even "A Tents" and of course you have "Wall Tents" issued even late in the war. But in some Form 40's for Nov-Dec. 1864 for the 7th S.C. Cav. I have noticed several references to "Shelter Tents" that were issued alongside "Wall Tents" Just a few months before they were still getting "Fly Tents" so I wonder if this was a U.S. style shelter tent that the C.S. started issuing late in the war.....
Example:
From CSR of Lt. D. Walker, Co. B 7th S.C. Cav.
Received near Richmond Nov. 30th 1864
6 Shelter Tents
1 Water Bucket
1 Skillet & Lid
1 Camp Kettle
1 Axe
