And what is that at the end of the muzzle? This guy keeps posting this thing. I suppose he thinks he's got a real jewel here.

Adapter for a bayonet. You can see the stud portion of it in photo #6.

It is obvious the seller has no idea what he is trying to sell.

Saw that one posted a while back. Detachable bayonet lug and check out the reconfigured butt plate...was he trying to make this look like a Mississippi? Looks like home-made sin doesn't it?

Perhaps he thought he was making a Dickson thus the farby CSA on the lockplate. In that he started with a Zouave he actually removed a bayonet stud! Whatever the intent makes for one ugly piece!

It is a Zouave repro, looks by the finish on the stock and the stated caliber to be a fairly early one. These can be made into a Mississippi Rifle with a considerable amount of work, routing a Mississippi patch box, and reshaping the nose to accept a Mississipi short front band, but it appears as though he is trying to make one of the southern variants. Why he did this, I don't know becuase, no matter how good you are the wood used to fill in the stock crescent cut and the patch box cannot be hidden. It is definately not worth 1500.00. Even if it was an original Zouave, the damage he did to it would destroy the monetary value of the piece.
