Sneak Preview of Ken Burns’ National Parks Series to be Shown at Gettysburg Museum Saturday
Gettysburg, Pa. (September 22, 2009) — The public is invited to the
Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center on Saturday,
September 26 at 5:30 p.m. for a free, special screening of a 45 minute
preview film for Ken Burns’ new television documentary — “The National
Parks: America's Best Idea.”
The series was filmed over the course of more than six years at some of
nature's most spectacular locales — from Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to
the Grand Canyon, the Everglades of Florida to the Gates of the Arctic in
Alaska. The six-episode series directed by Burns and written and
co-produced by Dayton Duncan is airing on WITF TV and other PBS stations
nationwide beginning September 27.
The Gettysburg Foundation is co-sponsoring Saturday’s preview screening and
they plan to present a new special volunteer opportunity to members of the

The National Park Service anticipates that the film will inspire millions
of people to get to know their national parks. On the day before the film’s
premiere parks all over the country will be hosting community events.

Park Service to enhance preservation and understanding of the heritage and
lasting significance of Gettysburg.
