These two items are coming up at a local auction, What are they? i am the assuming the cap is a G.A.R. cap but what do the markings mean? the other looks to be english equipment of some sort.

The kepi is from a member of the Knights of Pythias and is from around the 1880's. I have one that is almost identical to the one shown except for the chapter number on the front. I'm not sure where the belt came from (I can't make out enough detail from the small photo) but it might be related to the kepi.

I started to write this earlier today, then got sidetracked. It's hard to tell from the tiny picture but it looks like the same lozenge shaped insignia on the hat is also on the belt. The wreath surrounding the number is quite different from the GAR wreath. Do a google search for images, GAR and you'll see lots of examples.
