  • Mounted Battlefield Guides in Gettysburg?

    Hey All,

Some friends of mine from a New Hampshire cavalry outfit are headed to Gettysburg in October to do some riding on the battlefield. They wanted to take a horseback tour of the battlefield (not the pony ride type) but the guide that they had arranged for their group fell through.

Does anyone know of a battlefield guide (doesn't have to be one of the liscensed NPS ones, but that would be great) who could ride with these guys and give them a tour? They would of course be willing to cover the guides' fee. The guide must be able to provide their own horse.

    Thanks for the help!

      Tom ,
Several of us did the tour by ourselves and read the markers . The trails around the park are great ! It would have been good to of had a guide. We passed a group doing the pony ride and it looked terrible. We were in uniform when we did it too.

        Tom,
I would sugest Tim Kraft. He is very knowledgeable and gives awesome tours of out of the way areas. He is also licensed. Unfortunately I have no contact info for him, but I know he does them out of the Artillery Ridge campground.

          Guys,

Thanks for the suggestion of Artillery Ridge. My pards are camping there and had hoped to have a guide from them, but were informed that they only do the pony ride type tour that Jerry mentioned.

Jerry: I've ridden the field with these guys and others before, and done just as you described and its a lot of fun. I could play tour guide, but I don't believe that my schedule will allow the trip, so I'm trying to see if I can find them anyone to act as an official stand in.

          Take care,

            Tom,
When will they be down? I don't know that I am an expert, but I have been on those trails many times. It has been a while since I have been there, but I am only about 45 mins. from the battlefield. Depending on when they are in town, I might be able to help out.

              Hey Rob,

They'll be down the weekend of October 24-25th. They are a great bunch to ride with...real examples of New Hampshire Yankees...truely a breed apart!

              Take care,
