    Re: Fightingboys.com

Since the Weller overcoat is a civilian coat it stands to reason similar coats would be used through out the South in some form or another. It's just a working mans coat with a hood that happened to be made in quantities for the Orphan Brigade. Since only one exists we don't even know if all were allike. There are many references to troops receiving overcoats from home. That's how I justified getting mine for Va. use. Had different buttons and lining so it wouldn't be like every other one. Was glad I had it this winter. With the hood it was warmer than my US great coat and I did a great Yoda impression.

I definitely understand where you would get confused.

As a unit, we do not portray the Orphan Brigade. However, we are working on a Western Confederate impression for 1864. Thanks for the post, Bob. I hope to see you soon. Drop me an e-mail sometime at captainucsb@hotmail.com.
Im fixing on going to Oakley. I heard you are looking into doing the 2nd MN in the future.

Glad to hear you might make it down. We'd love to have you fall in with our Mess/Section at the event. Let me know if you are interested.

As for the 2nd MN, we are definitely considering them. I heard you had some relatives in the unit. Any info you could get me would be greatly appreciated.

Look forward to talking with you soon.

Y'all should see the original Weller overcoat, and his vest, and his jacket. they are really neat. Did y'all know that the Weller overcoat actually has a greenish tint to the jean, and it's machine quilted? And the Weller vest only has cotton pieces under the falling collar and the pocket bags. The backing is varigated jean. :wink_smil

In the parade shot, are you marching down Torrance Avenue, across from the library and city hall? I've watched many a Vets Day parade on that street as a kid.
