my trousers are getting pretty ragged what is the correct way to patch up a pair of confederate trousers .

Remember, period patches are almost always:
*Very well done
*on the inside of the garment
*of a cloth very close to the original, and sometimes even turned to match the grain.

Turning the outside of your trousers into your grannys bed quilt is frowned upon in the proper circles.

This probably won't help you in the immediate crisis but on of the workshops at the ALHFAM conference in June is on patching!
Period Patching and Mending
Morning Workshop $40 (Transportation and lunch provided)
Participants will examine original patched garments and try their hand at producing various period patches.

It always amazes me when people try to make their patching as ugly and half assed as possible
