  • Time Life "Echoes of Glory" series

I saw the other day for sale a set of Time Life "Echoes of Glory" series set printed in 2002. I am familiar with the set made in the 90's that we all know and love. I also know these came in hard and soft covers. My question is was there a reprint in 2002 by Time Life in hardcover like the set I found online that was the same as the series made in the 90's in name? What I was curious about is the fact I have never seen these in person and the covers of these books looks alot diffrent from the ones printed in the 90's. They all had the same titles "Arms and Equipment of the Union" and the same in the Confederacy also the atlas but different cover illustrations. Just curious because the price seemed a little low compared to those I've seen of the 90's set in complete form especially for hardcover. Thanks to all that can help.

    Phillip,
If the set in the pic is the one you're talking about, I think it's a good set. I own this set complete with the box pictured. I also own an earlier edition of "Arms and Equipment of The Confederacy" that I purchased new in the early 90's directly from Time-Life. The set your talking about is probably not as high quality. The paper is a bit thinner, cover not quite as nice, etc. But the content is the basically the same, and it's a good set of books. That is as best a I can remember. My older copy is at my house in Alabama, and my boxed set is here in Australia with me, so I can't compare them at the moment. That's just my 2 cents.

      Phillip,

My copy of EoG-U is the 90s style with the cloth cover. Conversely, my set of EoG-CS is exactly like the one you have pictured there.

A local used book shop had the complete set for sale for $75.00! And the next time I went back, they had SOLD!!!

Thanks Trace and Dan for your input on this matter. I knew it seemed to be the same just diffrent cover but the price was throwing me off and I hadn't ever seen these particular books in person and wanted to check. I think I'll get 'em and get into some reading!!! Thanks again gents!

How about this. There is a set that popped up in like new condition of the 90's set for $55. With shipping it comes to $20 dollars a book and they are hardcover. Is this a good price? I'm going to try and post a picture of these so you can see the condition.http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...MGt70muw_3.jpg

Re: Time Life "Echoes of Glory" series

I read this thread a day or two ago and was thinking about it again. I have both the Confederate and Union books although I do not own the third to the set. The Confederate one is one I bought in the 90’s and has the cloth cover. The Union one was given to my by a friend and has a different cover with two pictures. The one odd thing that I noticed was the Confederate book says “printed in 1996 … Second printing” but the Union book says “printed in 1998 … First printing”. Was there already two printings of the Confederate book two years before there was a first printing of the Union book? They are both Time Life Books and part of the Echoes of Glory set so I know they are the correct books.
