    Re: Euroarms is closing

When I first started in the hobby, a EoA 61 Springfield and a "Good" condition original 61 were about the same price. I think the market for originals sets a natural ceiling for the price of a repro. As I said earlier, if the price of repros shoots up to the $1000 mark, I think the use of properly made repros (aka custom guns) will be more realistic.

Again, if you have 12 impressions, but one crappy musket, the price of a good musket is not the problem.

      John,
You could be right, passes the" Common "Cents" Test"...I am going to another show soon, and I going to test your theory. What other period arms did this company make?

        Re: Euroarms is closing

I was at Blockade Runner today and saw they have several Euros now. They bought all they could. They have a few MS rifles, a CS Rich., a couple of 61s, some Enfields and believe it or not, FOUR Whitworths. They have been told that is all there will be for the time being as even their supplier is out and now unsure the fate of Euros.

Well the impact of Pedersoli's purchase of Euroarms is becoming clearer, but it is about what we expected. In the new edition of the 2011
Pedersoli black powder magazine they provide the following insight(s) about their newly acquired "Civil War product line." The highlights are:

          1. There will be three product "families", the US rifle muskets (and CS Richmond), Enfields and US 1841/Zouave rifles
          2. They are re-tooling the products to come up to Pedersoli fit and finish standards (nothing about historical feature accuracy)
          3. Estimated cost of their Civil War line to begin at 800 euros. Current exchange rate is 1 euro = $1.39 (US) or $1100 + in other words.
          4. The "new" Civil War products will be ready for their catalog approximately two years from now.

http://www.davide-pedersoli.com/uplo...te/6dpmag6.pdf. The article in question can be found on page 20.

A couple months back, I offered to send them information on improvements that needed to be made to the Enfields, in particular...Pedersoli customer service has not responded to or acknowledged receipt of the information. I think we can probably expect their US 1861 to be a good barometer as far as what to expect. A few years back Pedersoli took Euroarms parts, finished them "to Pedersoli standards" and charged 50%-75% more than Euroarms cost at retail for their virtually identical US 1861 at that time. It has gone up in price since then. Their catalog inferred it was their own product, but when pressed they did admit to the re-packaging.

About what I figured. Armi Sport is now the only game in town unless you can locate used guns.

              Re: Euroarms is closing

I'm a "fresh fish", new to the Civil War reenacting game. I just bought an original 1863 Enfield for $800 and a used Euroarms repro for $490 ($520 with shipping). I went with the Euroarms because I heard they were a bit better in quality than the Armisports.

However, even though it's 148 years old, the 1863 Enfield quality is just far and away better than the Euroarms reproduction. For example, the bands that secure the barrel actually clamp closed along the belly of the rifle - there is no gap when they are screwed tight. On the repro, there is a huge gap, and when you run your hand along the belly of the rifle the sharp edges of the bands and screw head/threads scratches your hand.

The little brass fixtures that secure the screw heads that go through to the lock plate are under-flush of the wood of the stock by at least 1/16th of an inch.

I was excited to hear that Pedersoli was going to make a P1853 and I hope they can come out with an authentic version.

                Re: Euroarms is closing

Through some back-room wrangling with Euro-Europe, Blockade Runner managed to acquire some new Euroarms Enfields, Cook & Bros carbines and MS rifles this week. They are in-stock but won't last long. These are supposedly the very final ones Euroarms had in Europe. The Euro vs. the dollar has narrowed enough that they saw fit to sell to the US market rather than wait for the slower European market to buy them.

Just wanted to pass on that there was several Enfields and one Springfield at the Regimental Quartermaster Shop in Gettysburg. Prices were not as bad as I thought they would be.

I'm sorry to hear of Euroarms closing...I purchased my Euroarms Enfield back in 1990 for $450 and am still using it...I've always maintained it and keep it well oiled, and have never experienced any problems with it nor had to replace any of the working mechanisms...Every ding and scratch on the butt stock tells a story or holds a memory of 21 years of reenacting.

Yeah, I'm a little bummed too. I had hoped to purchase a Euroarms Enfield a little bit later this year. I will probably have to go with Armisport now.

I know they are not an approved vendor, but for years Jarnagin carried Euroarms Enfields and Springfields, and they may still have a few in stock...
