  • Brigadier General Hermann Haupt

One day, while browsing through a book on the Civil War, I noticed a picture of General Hermann Haupt. I immediatly recognized that the man looked like my father-in-law. I covered up the name, presented the photo, to my wife, to which she exclaimed, " Wow! That guy looks like my dad". Likewise, my wife's grandfather was an engineer named Hermann Haupt.

So I am hoping for help from my comrades. I have searched for books, articles, etc but have not found much help. What I'm immediatly concerned with is the General's post- war career, and if he had any children.

As always, looking forward to your posts.

I will always be amazed that Gen Grenville Dodge and not Gen Haupt went on to work on the Pacific Railroad for the Union Pacific. If he had, the Big Four would have barely made the summit of the Sierras before meeting the U.P.!
