  • Ancestry.com and National Archives digitize Civil War records- free public access!

Here's the link to the local newspaper here in Salt Lake City

    http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...line.html?pg=1

The best part is that Ancestry.com is making all the Civil War records available to the public for free until this Thursday.
The digitization project is part of a five-year deal with Provo-based Ancestry.com worth millions of dollars. The public will have free access beginning Thursday for a week before a subscription is required to access the records.
Sorry if this has already been posted but I've been gone for 4 days and just say this today though the article was back on the 9th.

I appreciate you posting this link. Through the searching on Ancestry, I just found where two of my Confederate ancestors signed the SAME pension receipt form. SHAZAM!

No problem! I was able to find the burial plot # of my ancestor in Arlington National Cemetery!

Found the POW record of my ancestor in the hard to research Missouri State Guard, which included the skirmish he was captured in, his hometown, his rank, time and location of capture and the capturing unit. BAM!
