  • Civil War and Emancipation Day in Richmond? (April 16th)

    Hey guys,

Is anyone planning on attending this event in Richmond this coming weekend? I have never been before, although last year's event (then called, 'Civil War Days') apparently brought about 2,000 visitors to local historic sites.

Link to the event website: http://civilwar.emancipationday.net/

Many of the city's local destinations will be free of charge and there are shuttles running from the NPS Tredegar Iron Works parking lot throughout the day. I am pretty sure this is the only annual event that Richmond Battlefield Park - NPS does within the city involving military demonstrations.

On a side note, I am organizing a small program and heading a group portraying local militia and volunteers mustering in the city following the capture of Fort Sumter, S.C. I have all the details if you are in the Richmond-Tri-cities area and are interested. Send me a PM.

(I tried listing a more formal thread in the Events Folder but nothing has been posted yet. -Mods, I leave this second attempt at your disposal.)

    Regards,

PS: Also an excellent opportunity to drag your wife/ date along to a historic site, then please her by seeing the Picasso exhibit at the VMFA. The only time it will be shown on the East Coast!

    Good morning!

Just wanted to bring everyone up-to-date regarding the living history program this weekend, April 16th!

We have a number of activities planned in addition to ensuring plenty of downtime. I've gathered and prepared a lot of the company paperwork and forms necessary to have some sort of resemblance to: issuing of arms/accoutrements, reading of an actual April 1861 Gen. Order, paying of dues, &c. (Much thanks to the informational help by Mark Schaffner on company clerking!)

Our numbers are around 10-12 people right now, and we would love to have you on the roster! This only a single-day event however. Contact me via PM or e-mail and I will put you on the roster. Rank structure will be:

    1. Bill Backus, Capt.
    2. Paul Luks, 1st Sgt.
    3. Randy Allen, Cpl.

I've attached to this post a tentative schedule and a cool enlistment poster I made with Wickersty's the Printer's Typecase!

Hope to get some more people there, it's going to be a fun time.
