To Give Away, Free, no strings attached : 2 heirloom breed Sows, known to be fertile, at least last time they had the opportunity. A matching Boar as well, but he was "fixed" by a bite from one of the sows a few years back. One, two or all, you transport at your expense from near Montgomery Alabama.
The breed is called Piney Woods Rooters.
When they are piglets, they have horizontal stripes down their sides. Somebody more well-versed than I will have to speak to how common the breed was during the CW period, as the site portrays the Alabama Frontier up to 1820.
As pigs go, these are reasonably accustomed to people, being sometimes loose and sometimes penned in the back acreage of an Alabama state historical site which experiences high spectator traffic.
Another casualty to the lack of state funding, these pigs were used in a living history program that has been cut back. If not otherwise placed prior to April, they are destined to become BBQ. While we had no reservation about eating the piglets, we'd rather see these sows used as breeding stock or in another living history venue
