After almost ten years of buying parts here and there, trying my own small modifications, and making excuses not to spend in the ballpark of a grand for a reproduction rifle musket, I finally did. I will be the first to admit that specifics about imported European arms regarding certain manufacturers versus others and how common one would be versus another (unit, time frame, location, etc) has not at all been one of my stregnths. However, after talking with a few collectors and reseachers, I felt that the Barnett manufactured version offered by Todd Watts was what I had in mind for my money and my impressions.
I could not be more pleased with this thing. To consider the current cost of reproductions out of the box, then the work/tools/equipment put into the modifications, the overall cost was really not as significant as I had thought for such a long time, considering what actually goes into the end result. The recontouring and oiling of the stock reflects a lot of orginals that I have seen in photos and at trade shows. The markings on the stock and hardware are defined and of proper text/font, and the bluing looks fantastic. And, of course, the proper swivels and other small hardware were put in place.
I would like to say a big, "Thanks!," to Todd for his hard work and craftsmanship!
I also attached some photos for others, and particularly you musket hounds, to enjoy and discuss. I'm sure John W. and Curt S. can add some quality remarks.
