Re: Paul Smith Uriah Clothiers Forage Caps
Bob, to my knowledge, you are right. I do remember a conversation with him years ago, and he told me that the mill that produced the fabric that he used for his forage caps had ceased production of that fabric. I obtained one of his type II forage caps and a CS kepi from him years ago. They are the nicest pieces of CW headgear I have ever owned, and (no offense to any vendors here) I have yet to see anyone surpass his work. Historic military headgear was his passion, and he did a great deal of restoration work on originals in addition to his reproductions. His documentation was extensive: if you ran into him at an event, he had a three ring binder or two full of photos and measurements of original caps, he told you to pick which one you wanted reproduced. I have already told SWMBO that my two caps are to be placed in my coffin when I slip away from this world.Warren Dickinson

Re: Paul Smith Uriah Clothiers Forage Caps
Paul Smith made hands down the finest reproductions of Federal headgear bar none. I have was fortunate to have picked up three of them. Like Warren Im going to be buried with mine.Robert Johnson

Re: Paul Smith Uriah Clothiers Forage Caps
Gents,
I have not seen this with my own eyes, but I have been told by a friend (who contacted Paul directly) that Paul is making a very limited run of caps that are supposed to be sold through S & S of Gettysburg. I don't have any more information than that.
Take care,
