  • 85 YEAR OLD Civil War Veteran Lauren Higbie Recorded On Early 78rpm Record (Absolutely Captivating!)

While coming across some finishing research for the book I'm writing I ran across a link to a clip of a veteran singing on a rare recording called "Veteran's Last song"
Great to hear the voice of an actual veteran,,,,,very well done clip and the song is hauntigly beautiful in my opinion...enjoy

Thanks for sharing this! It's one of those small little War "relics" that many, if not all of us, would never have known about, nor heard, until your posting of it. Best regards.

No need of writing then but we can talk and talk again, and my boy can talk to me and I will never tire of listening to him and he will want to go with me everywhere I go, and I will be certain to let him go if there is any possible chance."

Has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It brings tears to my eyes. Thanks, Caleb Lewis

Thanks for posting this. It is very eerie and awesome to hear these folks. I wonder how many other recordings are out there? I remember seeing some black and white movie footage of memorial events in Ken Burn's documentary of the Civil War. It would be incredible to actually hear an interview from a veteran.

I just checked Ancestry.com and I believe this man might have been Laurentine Higby of the 1st NY Light Artillery. His pension record lists his "alias" as Lauren Higby.
