  • Buckles

Cornwallis, Tarleton and The 82 Regt Foot, 1780-81, US and NC Militia in 1812 & 14, Hoke and North Carolina Troops 1863-65 and US Colored 1865-1866 occupied a parcel of land in what is now Wilmington NC.
This is an example of the buckles that folks in the neighborhood have picked up over the years. I found #s 3,7,11 & 15.
(I screwed up and did not use ''12'', too lazy to edit and re-number.)

How about posting what you think they were used on and their period by number.

Paul & The Mods, if you want to can this post you won't hurt my feelings. I know much of this is early but it was found in and around some works Hoke re-built here.

      Re: Buckles

Number 6 appears to be a carbine sling buckle. Not having the correct book I couldn't make a call as to CS usage. 10 and 11 may be spur strap buckles. As for the others, you could go crazy trying to figure what each went on. So many buckles were used for horse tack, saddle bags and such that the variety is endless.

I have buckel that is just like 24 and another one that is just like 25 too, both are from Ceder Creek. Does anyone have any idea what type of Equipment were used with like Art. harness or a knapsack and I think both were dug in the eastern area of the battlefield.
