  • 16th Illinois Letters from Camp

I've come across a set of letters written anonymously by a member of the 16th Illinois Infantry and published in the Macomb Eagle during the summer of 1861. The letters deal with some of their training at Quincy (very cutting letter about the pomp and circumstance of their swearing in ceremony), as well as their move to Hannibal and Chilicothe, Missouri. If you're interested, please follow the link in my signature.

    Fantastic!
The swearing-in account is pretty far into the project, but the stories up to that are so entertaining that I enjoyed the literary journey very much. I plan to keep reading your Macomb installments ... Thanks for sharing this.
