  • To Defarb or not to defarb.

    I need a little advice.

Over the weekend I was given an early Euroarms Enfield, Serial # 151A, by the family one of the late-great guys in our area of interests.

My question is...Should I defarb it and use it, or retire it and start with a new one? I don't know a thing about these early seventies rifles or how they compare to today's copies. It is in great shape with a remarkable clean burnished patina. The bands are steel but the old farb style. The stock washers are flat-edged. It is very ''solid''.

I do not own a reproduction firearm of any kind and do not want to use period pieces anymore. In my eye, these artifacts have clearly earned the right to be left alone (and indoors).

I'm told by the family that the original owner would approve of the work, but I really do not know what direction to take here. I do not have any problem with doing the work if that is the word I get.

    Hallo Kamerad!

I use a "mid 1980's" EuroArms tha thas been extensively reworked with original parts being swapped, etc., etc.

IMHO, and experience in retroverting/reworking some 15 of the "ACW incorrect" 4th Models to the 3rd Models- the older EuroArms make a better "start' than the newer ones when trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Particularly because they do not suffer from "enlarged" stocks and barrels of the Age of Litigation Threat Era" newer examples.

I do not whether there is any added premium or value to an "older one," but rather doubt it.
