Lou Imperato who had made the Italian and Iver Johnson "Colt 2nd Generation" revolvers picked up the line Colt had ended in 1982 when in 1993 he founded/formed the Colt Blackpowder Arms Co. The CBA Company then made the "Colt 3rd Generation" blackpowder line aka the Colt "Signature Series" until 2002.
IMHO, a major problem with the 3rd Generations (including the Colt SM1861 RM) was the Samuel Colt signature cast into the back strap (or trigger guard of the rifle-musket).
It created/creates a "de-farb" issue as it lowers the resale value of the gun as a collector's piece to remove it, plus the steel back strap revolvers make it hard to very hard to reblue and match.
