I would say the coldest for me is a local event in October. I had about 3 blankets with me and two gum blankets. From what I have read here, it can get colder than what I have experienced.

All Civil War uniforms stop working around 19 degrees. Skirmish at River's Bridge 2004 in Georgia. No one slept, my teeth were like clastanets all night, we all rotated around the fire. We had a fire that NORAD could have seen and we was still cold. No one mentioned Winter '64 and that one North Alabama tactical event "Blue Mountain" where the whole place just iced over and everyone left.

Athens winter drill December 1994. Suprise cold front hit and it went from 35 down to minus 4 by the next morning. The Des Moines River froze overnight.

About 40 years ago, at a farbfest near here, we were all ready for June hot weather...except a violent cold front blew through and it was 38 degrees by 11 that night. Lesson number one: no matter what the weather is supposed to be, pack dry socks.

In the fall of 1994, we went up Cheat Mountain on September 30th. I had been wondering how some of the local unit froze to death or suffered pneumonia up there. When we got out on top, and I found myself ankle-deep in wet snow and blasted by a howling west wind, it was no longer surprising. It was only about 25 degrees up there, but between wet feet and wind chill, safety took precedence over looking around as much as I wanted to.

ETA: Does anyone recall the coldest weather the Original Cast suffered through? I've been reading Diary of a Rebel War Clerk. Fredericksburg may have taken the unwanted prize there, but it may be a lack of preparedness because that area doesn't generally get that cold at that time of year.

I just have to say that these are some amazingly interesting experiences. I'm looking forward to being at a cold weather event, and maybe making some noteworthy memories.

Yep, that pretty much goes without saying. I've experienced some wet and cold weather while camping before, but it wasn't reenacting and doesn't count here.

One of the coldest nights I spent believe it or not, was at Chickamauga NMP about 2005 or so, in August. August, you say? A cold front blew in overnight which dropped the temps down to about 50 degrees. We were all dressed for well, Georgia in August, and we froze. My pard got up in the middle of the night and was hypothermic and had to spoon up with another messmate. It wasn't the coldest I have ever been, but it was quite uncomfortable.

I almost forgot how cold it got at Donnelson in 05. It was dry though. The worst for me was having to deal with the call of nature very early in the morning and having to put on my frozen brogans.
