This weekend at Donelson was pretty darn cold and wet- about the teens with the wind-chill factor involved.

This is a no brainer for me... I've been to colder events, but by far the misery index is topped by the Friday night during the 105th Ohio LH at Perryville in 2001. I can handle cold, and I can handle wet, but cold and wet sucks. Plus the wind was blowing our crap all over the place. There was some grim humor that night, with somebody, maybe it was Heath I don't know, calling out for "Noah" at the height of the freezing monsoon. The funny thing was, it was actually colder on Saturday night (think it got down to 18 degrees), but at least we were dry.

Re: What's the coldest you've ever been at an event?

I don't know where my old notes were, but back during hunter safety educator training the literature claimed the prime temperature and condition for hypothermia deaths is 40 degrees F and raining lightly. If you're colder than that, you're more apt to pay attention; if you're getting drenched in an obvious way, you'll make some effort to go get dry. Apparently, people outdoors in light rain and moderate cold are more likely to chill to the point of poor judgment before they realize what's wrong. That 38-degree damp cold snap felt worse than some of the extreme cold I've been out in (-29.4 F is my record so far and I hope not to beat it...and I wasn't outside for long!) As it turns out, it was probably more dangerous because none of us were prepared for even slightly cold conditions.

I am going with Johnny and Pete on Ft. Donelson. 16 degrees Saturday morning with a mighty hard wind had me shivering pretty hard.

This one was cold and miserable, only thing kept me awake on picket was the pain from my feet. But colder was when we went winter camping last year, 4 below Zero when we grumbled up Sunday morning. Now there is a memory . . .!

I'm not sure about exact temperatures, but it had to be below freezing without the heavy wind blowing. I got so cold I couldn't fell my fingers and couldn't handle caps well enough to be able to keep up with firing commands. I will never forget that event. It was worth it though. I was fine at the 2008 event though.

Aiken, SC, 2010 (I think). Went down there with a few pards to goof off. It was high sixties during the day, but dropped below freezing that night. I was caught with one blanket, a jean shell jacket, and summer underwear. Spent the entire night stomping around trying not to freeze.

Mariposa CA for the event in April. Thought I was about to die from heat in the day and only had one blanket at night. Didn't sleep a second

I still think we were CRAZY drilling at 40 degrees BELOW zero. I know we looked like space aliens when we used covered up EVERY THING (we we cutting blankets into strips for scarves) The only thing that showed was the persons eyes. If it wasn't covered, it FROZE (Frostbite) in a matter of minutes! The 125th Saylors Creek was COLD also, and they let EVERY BODY have Onlt one fire!!!!
