  • Will there any campaigner adjuncts for 150th Gburg be?

    Comrades,
I woulld like to know if there are any campaigner adjuncts for 150th Gburg planned. I know it is the dog and pony show but there are some fellows on this side of the pond who are interested in seeing large numbers once in their lifetime but yet find themselves in a campaigner unit.

Gawd, I hope not. One more time...that land isn't getting any bigger. Participants are limited, they're already selling tickets and taking registrations. There will be nothing authentic in that mess of the GAC. It's FARBERY will be that of which legend is made.

        Just say NO!

Anyway, how about a good LH on the field. The Mifflin Guard usually has that weekend but during these anniversarys, they go to the Circus.

Isn't this event the reason most all of us have joined the "other" hobby?

          Jan,

PLEASE tell us that you are NOT planning on coming to Gettysburg!!! It is the worst circus of all! If you want to come over for a good event, there are countless others in the 150th cycle that we can help you with.

At max for my wife and I we MIGHT attend as civilians in period garb and watch the Farbfest... we are still debating it.

Jan- I know how you feel. I lived in Hessen for 3 years as US soldier in the modern Army and watched the hobby at a distance. I wished I could go to 140th anniversary events that were happening before my stubby fingers online and back home in the States.

Unless your boys are REALLY wanting to visit Gettysburg just to say they were there just for a 150th anniversary, the mainstream event is not for the campaigner-minded, quality-event attending population this forum espouses.

              Jan,

Stay tuned! There are a number of great people making great plans to mark the Gettysburg sesquicentennial. Don't look for 1998 to happen in 2013... However, there will be great options available, just as there were in 2008.

Jan, I second Mr. Wickett. Once the schedules get a little clearer you can plan your trip. If you do it right you can hit Chris Anders' event or something a little more intense and still have time to drop by the circus for a day as a tourist.

If you want to find a unique way to participate on the actual battlefield, I understand that some folks are planning to reprise the "Sixth Corps March." The whole event lasts a week, but has always been open to people participating for shorter periods.

Is it weird that when I try to picture the 150th of Gettysburg that I imagine carnival rides, cotton candy and funnel cakes?

Thanks lads, I do know what Gettysburg is like. I have been there in 1998. However there are several others who have never seen a large scale event and in their case the numbers are the main objective. Anyway I will keep the eyes open and already have another iron in the fire.

                        Hello Jan,

Come on over, I'll be heading out to Gettysburg from CA with my good friend Ed Sims. We'll share some funnel cake together ;).

People can get on their high horse and look down their noses at this event all they want, most of them will be there anyways. Can't wait to attend the 200th Waterloo, talk about your show of shows...

                          Hey folks!

                          To be clear...
                          1) We don't tolerate any "Us vs Them" rants. We're "them" and we've always known it and it allows us to move on to better topics.

                          2) More than anything else, disappointment stems from unmet expectations. Whatever event you attend, you want to have clear expectations if you want to have fun.

What made Shiloh so great? As much as anything, it was that Matt and his crew let you know what to expect, then he met and/or exceeded those expectations.

Wanna see numbers? GAC is for you. But...
Go in with your eyes wide open to all that comes with those numbers. Ian - It sounds like you've "right-sized" your expectations! ;)

Just like 2008, there will be multiple options. You will see some organizers utilizing the AC for some of them, others you won't.

Let's be honest, yup the main show will suck big time, but I am sure there will be many who will go just to go to the 150th Gettysburg....

I would rather have all my teeth pulled via my arse...but...we are working on some options to make it the best it can be for those who do attend.

I put on At High Tide in 2008- damn near ruined my life...so not this time around.

Instead using the energy that would go into that one event to work on 3 others..

If folks are interested in attending in gray the big show, drop me an email at ltcolcsa@hotmail.com and let's at least consolidate and build a bigger insulation pile. :)
