  • Authorized videos?

There is a very extensive list for approved vendors to where it would be safe to shop from. I was wondering if there was a list of approved movies that newer fish could watch to get a better understanding of how a complete kit can look, a picture is worth a thousand words but an authentic video can be even better.

      Re: Authorized videos?

With the slew of photographs and articles available online and in print, three hasn't been a reason to create a video. Considering the variables for each individual impression such as side of conflict, theater, year, season, enlisted, NCO, officer, branch of service and et cetera, a video for one particular impression would leave much to be desired.

Brian, to further expand on what Silas mentioned, check the Original Photos Folder here: http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/...vil-War-Images

You will find a plethora of original images discussed that will more than likely be able to answer many questions. Also, I highly reccomend the Libray of Congress website Civil War Image section. That website's image collection alone is better than any movie ever created when it comes to the ACW, in my opinion.

Also, the AC staff generally does not allow discussion of movies relating to the subject since the authenticity of historical films are rather lackluster.

I am working on an "experimental " project to make instructional videos for just that purpose. I have NO claim as any expert...but someome needs to get the ball rolling. I agree that a or several pictures are worth more that a 1000 words. This is a grass roots project and will take some time...so stay tuned. plm

            Re: Authorized videos?

            Hallo!

I have read and reread the question several times.

I am not sure, but I think the question might be two-sided.

One as already covered, might be a Hollyweird hysterical entertainment movie- of which there are none of reenacitng or living history instructional or education value as already shared?
But the other might be expressly instructional "movies" like the old and dated early 1990's VHS tapes like?:

"The Civil War Soldier: The Infantryman" by American Histtorical Productions, Inc.

            or

"School of the Soldier Program 1: Facings, Manual of Arms, and the Bayonet" and "School of the Soldier Program 2: Loading, Firing, and Marching" by Media Magic Productions.

NOT that I am recommending them, as they reflect an early 1990's (IIRC) Hobby World View which may not be applicable or transferable to things in some evolved Quarters today.

IMHO, and in my own biases, I believe it would be hard today, to produce such a series at the "Hardcore/Authentic" end of the Hobby because there are such few lads needing such or wanting such to make a profit on the venture.

Plus a Newcomer might learn "Hardee's 1855" only to find himself joining lads or units doing only Scott's or Casey's, etc.

In my heresies, basing impressions on Period images can give the most Believealbe Images.

            Others' mileage will vary.
