I'm looking for advice on what to incorporate into a cemetery service for a GAR statue; the local historical society and cemetery association want to hold a 100 year commemoration ceremony/service for a WRC statue here in Vinton's Evergreen Cemetery. There are about 20+ Union servicemen graves in the immediate area of this statue and more scattered throughout the cemetery.
I'm looking for ideas as to what sorts of activities would be appropriate for this sort of commemoration. Searching through past discussions doesn't really yield results I am seeking. If anyone has a sample schedule of activities or practical advice I would welcome it. The only thing I am certain about is the inappropriate nature of musket volleys; as I understand it in the past and current regs gunfire is -only- permitted if remains are being committed for final rest, or for a visiting dignitary to a cemetery. I want this observance to be respectful and historically appropriate--not theater.
Moderators--if this fits into a different folder then pardon my mistake.
