  • Tanner & Cie .69 Rifled Musket Info?

    Gentlemen,
I am asking for a friend and have no photos or extensive info, but I am hoping someone can help me out with some research. A friend purchased a .69 Tanner & Cie rifled musket (it is a copy of an M1840/50-something French piece) manufactured in Liege, Belgium in the 1860's era. I have had a difficult time finding any info on this weapons and its use on both sides of the War (though what I have found says that it was used by both, but primarily US) apart from an article from 1980 in the North/South Trader magazine. The article goes into a fair amount of detail, but I would like to have more info if anyone out there knows of some more complete sources on it. I know, from what I have read, that the large, heavy weapon was not valued by the troops and when/where they could replace them with lighter and more versatile 'smaller-caliber' muskets, they did so. It is possible that those used in the CS came from militia arsenals, as the CS itself did not order any as far as is known in my research. Thus, I know they saw little use in the conflict and the topic appears to have been mostly ignored by military historians, but if someone could put me on the trail of more info, I would greatly appreciate it.
