  • Resaca Letter on Ebay

There is a letter on Ebay with the soldier writing his parents that his brother was killed at Resaca. No last name of writer or his brother but he says their friend Pres. Owens was killed also and buried beside his brother. Anyone care to try and figure out what regiment this might be? Jim Hensley

Can you provide a link to the auction so that we may view the letter? Thanks.

I can't even make the NPS/LDS online database cough up a P Owens or P Owen on either side in the whole war...

              Gents-

I love and hate these little mysteries! I have been playing with this for two hours.

The fact that Thomas Jr. is talking about sending a horse home with Simmon to me means either they were cavalry or one of them was an officer. Again just surmising. I found a P. Owens in the 2nd Alabama Cavalry but I can't find out if he was killed or not.

The P. Owens record I found is on ancestry.com. No good unless you have a membership.

I also found an A.M.C. Riddle in Company A 19th Tennesee Infantry. He died during the war but it doesn't say where or when.

See the link below for the Riddle record.

                Re: Resaca Letter on Ebay

I won this letter last night in the auction for less than $90. It is quite rare to find one like this and I will be researching it accordingly.
From what little time I spent on it so far they may have been from Missouri in a MO cavalry unit(s) but I don't know if that coincides with that particular part of the Atlanta Campaign..
WIll update when I recieve the letter and when I get some more research done
