  • Need Advice On How To Fix A Bent Button Shank

    Gents-

Does anyone know of a method to straighten a bent shank on a CW period button without damaging it?

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

If it is an original the best thing to do is to leave it alone.

        Jim and Joshua-

That was my first thought as well...to leave it. Just thought I would check and get a second opinion or fix on the matter.

        Thanks!

I concur. Straightening the hook may pull the back off of the button or break the hook off. What kind of button is it?

            Jim-

I have (2) Federal general service eagle cuff buttons I believe to be 15.5 or 16mm. The shanks of both of them are bent to about a 45 degree angle.

                Gents-

Here is a picture of the two bent button shanks. It was difficult to get a picture showing the shanks and the amount of bend they really have on them. In the picture they don't seem that bad but the bends are there...I swear :)

Well, if they aren't broke you can always fix them until they are.
