Hello Men,
I am searching for guidelines pertaining specifically to Union troops in a parade. I belong to the 7th NJ Co A. In the field, they wore frocks, forage caps, army of the Potomac gaiters. There is an ongoing debate within my unit as to what to wear for parades and formal occasions, mainly focusing on dress hats, shoulder scales, white gloves and even wearing canteens at such things as Remembrance Day in Gettysburg. Trying to find hard and true evidence as to whether everyone was issued dress hats in general as per regulations. There are no photos of noncoms or enlisted in the 7th wearing dress hats, but would that exclude wearing them at the parade? Some people thought we were Iron Brigade because we had the hat and scales. I realize there is a variety of "uniform" at Remembrance Day, from the spit and polish Regulars to units carrying cross-cut saws, and we are always looking to improve. Any direction is appreciated. Thanks,
