    Re: Script A Buttons

Years ago Dixie Guns works had some, they were very high quality (imported I think) and they were like $5-6 each. A fellow in my unit had them on an officer coat and they were nice.

Firmin & Sons in England used to make very high quality Script A buttons from original dies. Today it seems they offer them in a CW "sampler" set, but not individually. You might try contacting them directly to see if they are able to sell some outside of the sampler sets.

Dug Old English A buttons are not very common. The lined I seems to me to be more common at least in late war ANV sites.

          Just an observation.

Hi Jim, very tantalising! Are there any more details on a timescale or exact type being produced (S. Isaacs Campbell & co lined A for instance) ? I will be interested!

Regimental Quartermaster carries a version of the lined "A" button seen on some Taits but, in my opinion, the quality of the restrike leaves much to be desired and lacks the pleasing crispness of originals: http://www.regtqm.com/product-p/but-025.htm

Found in the position of Taylor's battery on the Howlett line. Has a Manchester back mark. The repros don't do the originals justice.

Hi Brent, it's not me that has info about Script A's in the works, it's Jim Kindred - unless I misunderstand you? As for Script I's used on Tait jackets I'm not aware of any buttons with the the correct Tait type floating shanks that have ever been reproduced (please correct me if I'm wrong). The best option is Ben Tart's script I's with solid shanks - for the piped type Tait jackets that is. They may be a tiny bit larger than Tait size but they are excellent copies and are available here:-

Were the Script "A" buttons Jim mentioned earlier ever get made and offered for sale by a vendor? Just wondering.

                          Re: Script A Buttons

I had script A buttons made three years ago. This was a custom made button I commissioned Waterbury to make, I own the dies, etc. They are beautiful.

You can get them from S & S Sutler or the Button Baron.
