Hello! Will be giving another class on Civil War Uniforms- this time on the Trans-Mississippi West--

"This Class looks at the Battles of Bloomfield, Wilson's Creek, Siege of Lexington, MO., and Pea Ridge- and presents notes and photos on the appearance of the Armies who fought there. Much of the information gleaned from over 40 years of research and study. This class is geared to those with an interest in the Trans-Mississippi theatre, living history, or want to learn more about the uniforms, clothing or firearms of these Western Soldiers--

The cost is $15--At the Kenosha Civil War Museum, Kenosha, Wis. on March 9th, a Saturday from 1:00 to 2:30 PM-- phone 262-653-4141 for reservations-- SPACE is limited--

I will someday! All this information does no one any good if it stays locked up in my desk drawer until the day I am gone-- and then disappears-- I had two noted Civil War scholars pass away who were friends of mine-- both did tremendous research and wrote books--and now their notes are gone or in Limbo and their "collective" work will never be seen. In my lifetime I have written and talked to many a CW uniform researchers- who have said "I have this info. and someday I am going to write a book!" and they never do-- So the information stays locked up in their drawers!!!

Tom, I live in Bloomfield and have studied uniforms of both sides that fought here on several occasions, even did my thesis on the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry. I have also done extensive digging in and around the town. I would love more information about this event. I presented my thesis at the Mid-America Conference on History a couple years ago with great reviews from the Army War College and staff of the Univ. of Oklahoma. I would be interested in presenting that information. Thanks,

That must be Bloomfield, Missouri-- Jeff Thompson's favorite city-- Do have some neat info. on the Battle of Bloomfield from the Union side-- several letters-- and can tell you how the Illinois Boys of the 17th were dressed that day..
Be happy to share with you what I have-- right now it is all in folders and note books-- but will pull some things out-- Tom

Working on the presentation-- Received a synopsis of Trans-Mississippi operations from Fred Adolphus for my presentation-- Seems a lot of uniform clothing was being produced and purchased in the Trans-Miss. Fred did say not a lot has surfaced on Depot uniforms and what has is hard to pin point as to when and where it came from. Lots of good stuff here-- Actually Trans-Miss overload...
If anyone wants to contribute a photo or the original pattern from the Houston Depot--please send it on..
I have a fondness for the Missouri State Guard and the Trans-Mississippi in general.
And dont forget the Class is March 9th-- see you there

Had 13 students for the class-- they all felt it was worth the effort to show up-- and they all said they learned something new and interesting-- I will post time to time what was presented to the class on the Missouria State Guard, Hindman's Command in 1862, and the Depot System in the Trans-Mississippi from 1862 to 1865.
