  • Crystal for Original Pocketwatch

    Friends,
I've got an original mid-19th c. pocket-watch I acquired at the Nashville CW show back in 1990, bought it off of a dealer from Texas. Wish I had his card or name. Why? The crystal on my watch is broken and needs replacing. This wasn't a problem earlier as I had a local jewelry store in Clarksville that would do it for a nominal, reasonable fee. However, the owners retired and closed up shop. I enquired as to the cost of doing this at another jewelry store, and they wanted an astronomical figure without ever even seeing the watch.

Do any of you know of a reliable person that I could send my watch to in order to repair the crystal? I don't think I'm going to be able to find someone locally now.

    Thanks!

PS: Mods, if this is in the wrong section, please move my post.

    'afternoon,

I'm not sure if he posts on AC, but try Brett Gibbons (user name is Brett) on the Szabo forum. He tinkers with the old watches. I'm not sure to what extent or what his parts supply is. I bought a key wind that he cleaned up and posted for sale, and it runs perfectly.

    Best of luck,
    Calum

Thanks Calum, but I'm not a member of the Szabo forum, and won't be. If you can find his contact info, I'd be appreciative
