  • Period Printed Handkerchief Repros...

    All,
I am currently working on trying to get some civil war period hand finished, stamped, and dyed handkerchiefs done up so as to offer a more correct/unique item that was quite common.

Right now we are looking into possible designs for pricing from the source, if anyone knows of any good printed original handkerchiefs out there or has images and measurements of some and are willing to share them for the possibility of seeing it reproduced, please let me know. Good image(s) of the overall printed pattern/design and overall measurement of the handkerchief is what is currently needed.

Thanks in advance for your help and hopefully soon we can see some good handkerchief options out there.
    Respectfully,
    Jon Bocek

Scott I was just thinking about that one. I ordered the repro that the museum used to sell, was very disappointed in it.

        Mike,
        Can you elaborate?

I always wanted one of the ones they sold. Never got around to buying one. Would love to see something like it for sale again.

They used to sell a repro of it. Here is a link to pics from CWR forum website, the museum store doesn't list it anymore.

Oh, I see. It sounded like you were disappointed in the handkerchief itself, but now I see you were only disappointed in its lack of availability. Thanks for clarifying. I wonder if these will increase in value like the Augie Weisert blankets?

Ha, Bri. Being a textile whore, I already got one. I think we need a little more variety, though.

Paul, no sorry, I misunderstood. I was very disappointed in the hankerchief. It was a very thick print, only on one side, on a bright white hanky. It was very stiff, so I decided to wash it. Cold water didn't help, it faded and got light streaks across the print, like it was folded and rubbing on something, but I unfolded it before washing. Never took it into the field. Now I use a hankerchief made out of Homespun material I got from the Soldiers Aid Society that was at Chancellorsville, and huck toweling form Joann's for rags.

Mike the original is only printed on one side. I never had any streaking but yes it is rather thick.

Many of these offerings are appropriate for 19th century.

                            Dave,

Those are very similar to what I am in the process of getting. Block printed, all cotton, in period appropriate prints. Should have some soon!
