Hah! You are correct, Paul. I had it saved on my harddrive but not titled. Unfortunately I did not get one. :(

For those of you who have the repro from Oshkosh, what's the dimensions of it? I looked on the site and didn't see it, though might have missed it.

        Thanks!

          18x18 is what I recall.

The repro ones I've made in the past have ranged from 18x18-22x22 depending on the original. They are about split, percentage wise, in being cotton or silk.

All ladies in Houston and surrounding counties who have cloth on hand, which they can spare, are requested to donate it to the ladies of Crockett for the purpose of making petticoats for the Minute Men of this county, who have "backed out" of the service. We think the petticoat more suitable for them in these times.

According to the museum's website, the original is handkerchief carried by Joseph Arnold is 21 x 19 inches. I don't know if that refers to the original dimension or the existing artifact as the description states that 3 inches is missing from one end. Perhaps Scott Cross could add to this.

I own an original handkerchief. It's similar to one in EOG. Shoot me an e-mail if you'd like a photo or two...tristangallowaydds[at]gmail.com.

I'd post pics if I had them on my work computer and will probably forget without an e-mail reminder...

Good point David. People get so hung up in one era they forget there are lots of other eras with Living Historians with mad skills!

                          Re: Period Printed Handkerchief Repros...

Hello all, this is Angela from Burnley & Trowbridge. We have been working on period printing for some time now and have been approached by several of you regarding reproductions for the Civil War era. There is a possibility that we would have an interest in this time period however we cannot and will not reproduce from museum collections with out their express permission. This project can only be achieved if there is someone out there willing to share a private collection or if you can provide us with enough contemporary photography to cobble together appropriate artwork based on the photography. The cotton we print on is very light and well suited to handkerchiefs of the civil war era and later. I look forward to the continuance of this discussion.
                          Regards,
                          Angela Burnley

                            Re: Period Printed Handkerchief Repros...

I have the final prototype on its way to me for approval and then the handkerchiefs will be a reality! Attached is a picture of the first prototype...the final will be a lighter blue and with in-dyed designs instead of printed designs.

Just a quick note on the 18th century styles some have referenced... I have the same source as they do to get these handkerchiefs and that would have been a quick and easy thing to do, but I wanted to be able to provide a truly 19th century handkerchief, and not one that would have been around 100 years before. There are some styles that would be similar, but the industrial revolution changed the way that textiles were manufactured, and many of those designs would be like using something today that was made in 1913.... Just keep that in mind when choosing styles if you choose to go that route make sure that style isn't the result of a process that was almost "antiquated" by the time the 1860's rolled around.

I think everyone will be please with this one, and the great thing is that once I have it finished, other styles won't be such a process to achieve!

                            Thanks for your interest!
