  • Are these confederates?

    Hi All,
I live in a small town (less than 1500) on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. A local news paper has been doing monthly special edition stories related to the Civil War on the Eastern Shores of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
A cousin of mine found a picture in an old delapatated store that was falling down. He claims it may be that of confederate soldiers in camp. The pic is faded extensively. Perhaps someone here can figure out if these are Civil War soldiers.

      Hallo!

My skills and equipment are too meager or non existent to enhance it...

I a not seeing anything time-definitive to make a declaration... But my bias and opinion is that it is they are post War hunters, as I lean more towards the shotgun being a hunter's than necessarily a Confederates'. Of course, one could go the other direction as well.

From what I can see, it appears the photo is in a paper folder that is post CW era.

          Curt,
Are you sure that is a shotgun. Almost looks like a lever action like a Winchester etc. The very bottom of the photo looks like it is the front round part of the trigger guard.

            Hallo!

Better eyes, larger monitor, and better Photoshop skills might say yes. Good call.

But, I will stick to my guess. I believe I am seeing two uniform side-by-side barrels from the bottom rather than the two sized barrel and magazine tube of a Winchester. And, the way the light reflects on the nose cap seems to appear as a nose cap viewed from the bottom and not a Winchester's viewed from the side.

Not saying I am right, just a WAG...

            :)

Regardless of Civil War affiliation, it's a wonderful historical document of recreation in a time and place.

I looked closely at Curt's enlargments for several minutes and I also think that it's a shotgun. I agree also that these guy's are likely two hunters in camp
