9th Indiana VS 29th North Carolina

I've known for quite some time about my GGG Grandfather Sgt. William Duncan, 29th NC Co. I, but I recently discovered my GGG Granduncle Sgt. James G Buchanan, 9th Indiana Co. A. These two units were often in close proximity in the Western Theater, particularly from Murphreesboro on.

I know its a bit silly, but curiosity overwhelms me. Does anyone happen to know if these Regiments ever actually " faced ' each other across the field?
Or know of an authoritative source besides the usual suspects on either regiment?
So far in my research I've not found any records in that detail.

Just throwing the question out here.

Not as far as I can tell. The maps I looked at aren't exact, but it seems that while once or twice they were not too far from each other, they were never directly opposite each other.
